Zé Jorge: an Artistic Celebration of Identity and Heritage in Folia de Máscaras
The Verso Gallery in Lisbon presents Folia de Máscaras, the first international exhibition by artist José Jorge Soares – Zé Jorge.
Featuring 16 works in watercolour and Ecoline, the exhibition explores cultural identity through colour, masks and traditional characters.
The collection features Fofão and Cazumbá, two emblematic figures of Maranhão’s carnaval and popular culture. Through these characters, the artist explores the traditions, memory and cultural heritage of northeastern Brazil.
The exhibition is produced by Cássia Melo, with curation and local production led by Helô Plantier and Civil Diplomat Carolina Antony in Lisbon.
Civil Diplomat Márcia Damasceno, Jethro International’s Director of Public Relations for Portuguese-Speaking Countries, is responsible for promoting the exhibition. Actor and Civil Diplomat Marcello Antony was also announced as a guest at the opening ceremony.
