The first day I heard some airplanes and the first thought was I need to hide.
According to the United Nations, more than four million people have fled Ukraine as a result of the war. A reality Lesnik is living through.
Right now my friends are all around the world. One friend is in Switzerland, another friend is in Germany, a third friend is in Croatia, a fourth friend is in Italy, fifth is in Spain. And I’m in the U.S. and we all don’t know when is going to be a time when we will go back.
She told her three small girls they were going to visit their grandmother. Then she took them on a terrifying 12-hour ride out of Ukraine.
Exploding bombs.
Tank after tank after tank.
Crowded roads.
My Broken Heart presents the stories of 13 witnesses who experienced the war in Ukraine firsthand.
These stories provide a vivid and deeply personal account of the conflict, showing the resilience, pain, and courage of ordinary Ukrainians amid extraordinary circumstances.
In this book, I gathered testimonies from different voices: soldiers, civilians, volunteers, and families affected by the war.
Each story offers a unique perspective, painting a broader picture of the ongoing struggle in Ukraine and its impact on human lives.
My book aims to amplify the voices of those directly affected by war, increase awareness of the realities of conflict, and foster empathy and understanding among readers.
I believe the stories captured in “My Broken World” are timely and necessary, offering a human face to the headlines we see in the news.
I’m blessed that I have an opportunity to help my country. It would be a disaster for me to sit somewhere and do nothing. I would cry the whole time.
