Jethro’s Civil Diplomats at Leiria: community resilience, coordinated relief, lasting gratitude

PORTUGAL: storm Kristin struck the country in late January 2026 with extreme winds and heavy rain, hitting the central region hard, including Leiria and Marinha Grande.

Reports described roofs torn away, widespread power outages, major clean-up needs, and severe disruption to homes, services, and local industry.

In moments like these, speed matters, but so does structure. That is where Civil Diplomat Jethro International in Portugal helped to mobilise people, coordinate voluntary action, and facilitate practical, local partnerships on the ground.

Storm Kristin’s impact in Leiria

Leiria was among the areas most affected, with thousands of incidents registered by civil protection and extensive damage reported across the wider centre of the country.

Public reporting also highlighted the urgent need for emergency repairs, including roof tiles, as families worked to protect homes from further weather exposure.

“Telhas para Todos” – the call that started it

Immediately after the storm, our National Director in Portugal, Colonel José Geraldo, published a public appeal that launched the campaign “Telhas para Todos” (Tiles for All), calling Civil Diplomats and community partners to act quickly with roof tiles and essential goods.

A mission built by people who decided to show up

Following that initial call, Civil Diplomats in Portugal, working with committed partners, helped to collect and deliver water and food supplies, and supported the logistics of getting materials where they were needed most in Leiria.

We extend heartfelt thanks to the companies that stepped forward, including Inovacar, ACE, DM Conecta, Atlas Léo, and other partners who acted with responsibility and purpose.
