Gilberto Ferreira and Life-Changing Child Aid with Football at Ukraine

The Civil Diplomat Gilberto Ferreira embarked on a remarkable humanitarian mission in Ukraine.

The mission aimed to bring hope to war-orphaned children through the universal language of sport—football.

Together with his dedicated team, the Civil Diplomat worked across multiple cities in Lviv and its surrounding regions, close to the Polish border, delivering support to over 500 children aged 7 to 17.

The experience was more than just about sports—it was about restoring hope, strengthening spirits, and providing a sense of normalcy in the midst of the ongoing conflict.

Football as a Path to Hope

During this 10-day mission, the team organised football activities that gave children a chance to engage, laugh, and forget their daily struggles for a while.

But the activities were not just physical—they were designed to nurture emotional resilience. After each training session, the children gathered in a circle for a time of reflection.

Gilberto Ferreira and the team spoke to them about life, their difficult present, and the hope that tomorrow would bring. The goal was to motivate, inspire, and remind them that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Despite the trauma and psychological scars left by the war, the mission provided both spiritual and emotional support, and a moment of peace—a glimpse of hope for a brighter future.

Volunteers Without Borders: A Global Effort

This extraordinary project was carried out in partnership with the “Voluntários Sem Fronteiras” (Volunteers Without Borders) programme of the Baptist Mission Convention.

Through this collaboration, Gilberto Ferreira and his team became agents of positive change, showing that even in the most challenging circumstances, there is room for compassion, connection, and healing.

The power of football also played a key role in restoring children’s hope for the future.
