CITADEL OF CASCAIS: A PRESTIGIOUS EVENT IN THE HEART OF PORTUGAL HIGHLIGHTS HUMANITARIAN CIVIL DIPLOMACY BY JETHRO ORG.

Civil Diplomat Jethro Organisation Ceremony at the Citadel of Cascais

The historic Citadel of Cascais hosted a memorable ceremony promoted by Civil Diplomat Jethro Organisation on the evening of 24 July 2025.

The ceremony highlights Civil Diplomacy as a powerful gobal force celebrating the condecoration of Humanitarian Civil Diplomats.

Hosting the event were Colonel José Geraldo, National Director of Jethro in Portugal, and Dr Bruno Costa, International Director of Jethro.

Headquartered in Europe and actively present across all continents, Civil Diplomat Jethro  legitimises humanitarian leaders as Civil Diplomats to act lawfully in social, environmental, and human rights initiatives, aligned with international conventions.

With elegance and sensitivity, the event was conducted by Helena Fonseca.

New Civil Diplomats take office

Dozens of Civil Diplomats received their official credentials during the evening.

The chancellery was conferred by key leaders of the organisation, recognising the commitment of these individuals to human dignity, social transformation, and global solidarity.

Among the highlights was the appointment of Mr Edison Dias as Director of Expansion, a role that reflects his continued leadership and strategic vision within Jethro’s global network.

Martin Luther King Prize honours humanitarian leaders

The most emotional moment of the ceremony was the presentation of the Martin Luther King Prize to three outstanding individuals whose work embodies the ideals of justice, peace, and equality:

– Ione Carvalho, a Brazilian-French historian and anthropologist, honoured for her decades-long dedication to indigenous communities and women’s rights throughout Latin America.

– José Carlos Coelho, the Vice-President of the Board of Directors of Social Services of Lisbon City Council whose innovative projects have positively impacted elderly people and families in vulnerable conditions.

– Luciana Abreu, a renowned Portuguese artist celebrated for her humanitarian activism and vocal advocacy against domestic violence and for women and children.

A call to global humanitarian action

In his closing remarks, Colonel José Geraldo emphasised the vital role of Civil Diplomacy as a legitimate and transformative instrument in today’s world.

He urged the newly certified diplomats to act with courage, responsibility, and empathy.

“You carry not only a title, but a mission. Let your actions be beacons of hope and change,” he declared.

The event reaffirmed Civil Diplomat Jethro International Org. as an international reference in Humanitarian Civil Diplomacy and inspired all those present to continue building a more just, peaceful, and united world.
